With the HelloBonnie Smartcard, you can use flexible benefits by assigning monthly credit in the HelloBonnie Wallet regionally or brand-specifically. The card works online like a Mastercard and on-site contactless via smartphone or with the physical card. It is also suitable for subscriptions and the Deutschlandticket. Credit can be saved up, receipts are not necessary. Direct debit payments are not possible.
With your HelloBonnie Smartcard, you have access to flexible benefits that you can customize according to your wishes. Here you will learn how to use your card online and on-site.
1. Assign credit
Before you can pay with the Smartcard, you must assign your monthly budget in the HelloBonnie Wallet to a purpose. You have two options:
- Regional Spaces – Use your credit locally at all acceptance points that accept Mastercard (e.g., supermarket, restaurant, or gas station near you).
- Brand Spaces – Assign your credit specifically to a certain brand (e.g., Spotify, REWE, Zalando).
Important: If you forget to assign, your credit will automatically be allocated to your last selection or the region of your employer.
2. Pay online
You can use your Smartcard like a conventional credit card in online shops:
- Select the payment method “Credit Card" (Mastercard) when paying.
- Open your HelloBonnie Wallet to view your card details.
- Enter card number, expiration date, and CVC security code.
3. Pay on-site
Depending on what your employer has enabled, you have the following options:
- 📱 Via smartphone (contactless) – Add your virtual Smartcard to Apple Pay or Google Pay and conveniently pay with your phone or smartwatch at any Mastercard terminal.
- 💳 Physical card – If you have received a plastic card, you can use it like a normal debit card. Your PIN can be found in your HelloBonnie profile.
4. Subscriptions and Deutschlandticket
You can also use your Smartcard for recurring payments, provided the provider supports card payment (Mastercard):
- 🚆 Deutschlandticket – Save your Smartcard as a payment method in apps like “hvv switch".
- 🎵 Streaming & Co. – Services like Netflix or Spotify can be paid via the saved card details.
Note: Direct debit payments (SEPA) do not work with the Smartcard.
Good to know
- 💰 Save up credit – You do not have to spend your budget immediately. As long as it is assigned to a Benefit Space, you can save it up for months – without limit.
- 🧾 No receipts needed – Since it is a certified benefit card, you do not have to submit or keep receipts for payments with the Smartcard.
- ❌ Transaction declined? This usually happens if the credit is insufficient or has not yet been assigned to any Benefit Space.
